Dr Sonia Wahengbam--started her professional journey as a journalist, working with The Indian Express, New Delhi, for almost six years as a senior sub-editor. Presently an Assistant Professor, she teaches Foundations of Print Journalism, Media Writing and Visual Communication at the Department of Mass Communication, Manipur University. She completed her PhD in “Social Development Through Traditional Media (Shumang Leela), With Special Reference to Manipur”. She participated in the screenwriting workshop by Alexandra Viets, “Re:play 12”, hosted by MFDC; did translation for Dr Meena Longjam’s National Award-winning documentary “Autodriver”; participated in the 5-day “Film Appreciation Course”, organised by FTII, Pune, and Manipur University as part of the Skilling India in Film and Television, an initiative of FTII, Pune in January 2019; co-presented a paper “Symbolic Annihilation of Northeast India in Bollywood” on April 25, 2019 in the International Media Conference on “Between the Local and Global: Representation of Mainstream and Marginal In Contemporary Cinema”, organised by Manipal Academy of Higher Education, Dubai; participated in the 15-day “Smartphone Filmmaking Workshop”, organised by FTII, Pune and Manipur University as part of the Skilling India in Film and Television, an initiative of FTII, Pune in November 2019.
