Dr. Paromita Chakraborty is an Associate Professor and Leader of the Environmental Science and Technology Laboratory at SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Kattankulathur. With a Ph.D. in Natural Sciences from the Guangzhou Institute of Geochemistry, Chinese Academy of Sciences, China, she has further enriched her expertise through post-doctoral fellowships at City University, Hong Kong, and Savannah State University, USA. Her academic and research journey reflects a deep commitment to advancing environmental science and sustainability.
Her extensive work in the water sector earned her the prestigious Water Advance Research Initiative Fellowship in 2017, funded by IUSSTF, DST, DWFI, and UNL. She serves as the nodal person for Special Directorate and Chemical Waste Management with Special Focus on POPs by CSIR-NEERI, supported by UNEP, and mentors fellows under the ACU Blue Charter Fellowship of the Universities of Commonwealth, UK. Currently, she leads projects worth over INR 2.5 Crores funded by national and international agencies, while also serving as country coordinator for the Southern Contaminant Program (CAS, China) and proficiency testing partner for NIES, Japan.
Dr. Chakraborty has been recognized with numerous honors, including the Young Environmental Scientist Award, Hiyoshi Environmentalist Award, Eminent Scientist Award, and Aqua Foundation’s Excellence Award. With over 75 peer-reviewed publications, including 10 articles in nature-indexed journals and 15 book chapters, she continues to contribute significantly to global environmental research and policy. Her work bridges scientific innovation, international collaboration, and sustainable solutions for pressing environmental challenges.
